Clear some extra space on those bookshelves for the annual Friends of Leath Memorial Library used book sale on Saturday. Residents are encouraged to stop by the library between 9:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. to purchase good quality books for discounted rates.
“All types and subjects of books will be on sale,” said Anne Thrower, a Friends of the Library board member.
Book prices will vary from 25 cents to $3, and Thrower said buyers can expect great bargains and a great selection.
“We’re also happy to take donations of books from people,” Thrower said. “Donations will be accepted up through Thursday, Oct. 11 … A lot of books are usually donated, everything from current bestsellers up to older classics.”
Judy McEntire, president of Friends of Leath Memorial Library, said the sale typically yields good results.
“This is the main fundraiser (for Friends of Leath Memorial Library), and the purpose is to support the activities of the library and the staff,” she said. “Proceeds from this past year brought new computer chairs for all the computers in the library.”
“The proceeds of the book sale go to support needs at the library above and beyond the regular budget,” Thrower said. “We usually support summer reading and other children’s programs throughout the year — whatever the needs are that might not be met within the regular budget.”
The sale will be held in the Calvin-Little Room of Leath Memorial Library, located at 412 E. Franklin St. in Rockingham.
“We need everybody to come,” McEntire said. “We’ve got some really good bargains and some great books.”
