Brenda Ann Smith, 69, died Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2012, at her home.

Services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 30, at Philadelphia United Methodist Church, with Bishop Thomas McDonald delivering the eulogy. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

A public viewing will be held Saturday, Sept. 29, from 1 to 6 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Service of Rockingham.

Smith was born on April 24, 1943, to the late Ira Smith Sr. and Jeanette Majors Smith. She attended Richmond County Schools. She worked as a Dietitian at Whispering Pines Nursing Home in Fayetteville. She later moved to Rochester, N.Y. and became a foster parent, which included the adoption of four children.

She is survived by six sons, Paul Stanley Smith, Marquis Elliott, Tevin Elliott, of Rockingham, Melvin (Dee) Smith of Rochester, N.Y., George (Debra) Smith of Maryland, and Jonathan McLain, Fayetteville, four daughters, Sharon Capers of Charlotte, Michelle Currie of Hamlet, Shirley Smith of Rockingham, and Gabrielle Elliott of Fayetteville, three brothers, Lee William Smith of Rockingham, Charles (Debbie) Smith of Southern Pines, and Ira Smith of Flint, Mich., three sisters, Margaret Nicholson of Rochester, N.Y., Evangelist Azzie Robinson of Rockingham, and Sarah (James) McDonald of Rockingham, two nieces, grandchildren, and seven great- grandchildren.

Nelson Funeral Service of Rockingham, will be in charge of the arrangements.
