Mrs. Ruth Mabry Maurice, 84, passed away peacefully on Tuesday September 25, 2012 at Scotia Village in Laurinburg. She was born in Hamlet, North Carolina on May 24, 1928 to the late Charles Snellings and Martha Olema Mabry. Ruth was a kind and generous person who always met life with a beautiful smile.

She was a 1949 graduate of Salem College and Bowman Gray School of Medical Technology and received her Master’s degree in Human Development and Learning from UNC-Charlotte in 1984.

She worked a short time as a medical technologist for Dr. R.B. Garrison of Hamlet and taught in Richmond County Public Schools and at Richmond Academy for a total of 25 years, retiring in 1990.

She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Hamlet and active in the Episcopal Church Women (ECW). She was a Lifetime Member of the National Education Association-Retired.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday September 28, 2012 at All Saints Episcopal Church with Father Harry Abernathy officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the fellowship hall of the church.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joseph Franklin Maurice of Scotia Village in Laurinburg; daughter Martha Jo Maurice Hitt and husband Bill of Hamlet; son Charles David Maurice of Mt. Gilead, NC; sister Sarah Sherlyn Mabry of Hamlet; two grandsons David Hitt and wife Stefanie of Helena, Montana and William Hitt of Winterville, NC.

Memorials may be made to All Saints Episcopal Church, 217 Henderson Street, Hamlet, NC 28345.
