Dear Editor,

I want to thank those who where involved in contacting the DOT about the conditions of the streets in East Rockingham. Saw the truck on Sept. 5, and the workers starting to clean up the streets, thank you! If we work together we can accomplish a lot more in Richmond County, let’s be a team of folks who care.

If you have means to help i.e., know people, a community leader, use your resources to help. A phone call to the mayor, call Raleigh for aid to help on some of the community projects. Anything to try to help our community. It’s simple, who is your neighbor? We are suppose to love our neighbor as ourselves, and I know you/me love self, so how much do you love you?

Now my second question, (no silly remarks) talking to a elder lady in East Rockingham, she mentioned that she was promised by the city that some of the rundown houses would be torn down, the promise was not fulfilled. I have seen the huge rats and black snakes, and yes, copperheads in the area, there are kids that play in and around those grown up areas of bushes and weeds. To the Mayor and County Commissioners, and City Council, East Rockingham is part of the city, and it surely is a part of the county.

Can any elected official respond to this, for the sake of the the tax paying folk of East Rockingham? Those houses are in really bad shape. Make the decision to start removing some, a little at a time. I would hate for a child to be bitten by a snake, and it’s an accident waiting to happen.
