Hamlet Police Chief John Haywood has been fired, according to Hamlet Mayor Jeff Smart.
The mayor confirmed the dismissal in a phone call with the Daily Journal this afternoon.
Smart said the matter will be discussed at the Hamlet City Council meeting at 7 p.m. tonight at City Hall, 201 Main St.
Following the dismissal of Haywood, Captain Amery Griffin has been appointed as the Interim Chief for the Hamlet Police Department.
