On Saturday, Democrats celebrated the grand opening of the Richmond County Democratic Party’s election headquarters located in the Richmond Plaza Shopping Center in Rockingham.
“We’re very excited about the event,” said Jane Layton, chairperson of the Richmond County Democratic Party. “We hope our election headquarters will serve as a convenient location for the people of Richmond County to register to vote as well as obtain information on our candidates.”
Festivities began at 11 a.m. with several local and state politicians in attendance.
“We are glad to be in our new building and we hope everyone will come out to join us for the grand opening,” said Jim Chandler, secretary of the Richmond County Democratic Party.
“It’s so important that people get out to vote. However, to vote, a person must be registered and then needs to be informed about the issues and the candidates. We want our headquarters to help the citizens of Richmond County do both of these things,” said Wenonia Wall, first vice-chair of the Richmond Democratic party.
Following the grand opening, election headquarters will be open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. For more information, call 910-817-9704.
