Marcella Lavern McDonald and James Albert Townsend, both of Rockingham, were united in marriage on June 30, 2012, at First United Methodist Church in Rockingham. Rev. Angelo Troy, Rev. Donnie R. Bennett, and Rev. Mike Sykes officiated the 2 p.m. ceremony.

The bride is the daughter of Robert and Emma Jean Broady and Albert McDonald of Rockingham. She is the granddaughter of Lucy Mae Brown and the late Emma Diggs Allred, also of Rockingham.

The groom is the son of the late Willie James and Bernice Broady Townsend of Rockingham. He is the grandson of the late Sally Broady, also of Rockingham.

The bride was given in marriage by her parents and escorted to the alter by her father and stepfather.

Marcella wore a regal white satin Unspoken Romance gown featuring a sweetheart neckline with lace cap sleeves and A-line skirt. It was adorned with metallic hand embroidery and embellished with beadwork and sequins which covered the entire bodice skirt, and royal length train. She wore a two-tier elbow length veil and a crystal tiara. Her bouquet was made of white roses.

The bride’s sister, Sabrina Y. McDonald of Rockingham, served as Maid of Honor. She wore a lilac charmeuse floor length gown with beading and sequins on the waist and a bolero jacket.

Bridesmaids included Andra McDonald Douglas of Rockingham, cousin of the bride; Mary Townsend of Rockingham, sister of the groom; Lashara Waddell of Rockingham, niece of the groom and Volante L. Holmes of Raleigh, best friend of the bride. They each wore one shoulder lilac charmeuse floor length gowns adorned with beads and sequins on their shoulder and waist. They carried a bouquet of pink and lilac flowers.

Honorary bridesmaids were Teketia Friend of Winston-Salem; Maria Lockhart of Statesville; Mary Pridgen of Danville, Va.; and Tonda Williams of Kernersville. They wore purple tea length dresses. They each carried long stemmed white calla lilies.

Mariah Waddell of Rockingham, niece of the groom, served as the Miniature Bride. She wore a white satin gown with lace cap sleeves with elegant embroidery and beadwork that was similar to the bride. She adorned a two-tier veil and crystal tiara. She carried white roses identical to the bride. Kadia Rucker of Norman, friend of the couple, served as the flower girl. She wore a sleeveless white organza ankle length dress with ruched bodice and ruffled neckline with a purple satin sash. She carried a white satin basket and scattered lilac and silver rose petals.

The groom chose his cousin, Joe Broady of Hamlet, as his best man. Groomsmen were Wayne Easterling of Sorrento, Fla., cousin of the bride; David Lockhart of Statesville, friend of the couple; Dr. Montell Salary of Rockingham, friend of the couple; and Phillip Waddell of Rockingham, nephew of groom. Serving as ushers were Luke Chaz Dawkins, Thomas Everette, and Tyrone Jones, all of Rockingham; and Logan Northcutt of Hoffman.

Kobe McDonald of Rockingham, nephew of groom served as the Miniature Groom. He wore a white tuxedo and accessories identical to the groom. Kylan Patterson of Charlotte; friend of the couple, served as the ring bearer. He wore a white tuxedo and carried a beaded white satin pillow.

Music for the ceremony was provided by pianist, Albert Everette of Rockingham and soloists Tionda Jones of Rockingham and Stephen Williams of Winston-Salem. Program attendants were Maggi Chambers and Montana Kelley of Rockingham. Presiding at the guest register were Donna Pumphrey and Jennie Brown.

Directresses for the wedding were Sue Dockery of Ellerbe and Cooper McLaurin of Rockingham.

Following the ceremony, a dinner and dance reception was held at the Cole Auditorium in Hamlet. Greeters were Dorothy Goldston, Verna Grant, Halena Jackson, and Patricia McCoy. Presiding at the gift table were Lois Jones and Joanetta Ingram.

After the reception, the couple enjoyed a wedding trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C., and Atlanta, Ga. The couple will reside in Rockingham.
