Street maintenance needed in East Rockingham

Dear Editor,

I am concerned about the conditions of the streets in East Rockingham.

Who is in charge of maintaining the streets? The grass is growing into the streets, the individual that lived in 124 Ninth Avenue Aleo was told he couldn’t enclose his porch, but the grass growing onto the concrete part of the street was not addressed.

At 122 Ninth Ave. Aleo, the gentlemen had his grass in front of his cleaned by another, this is the grass growing onto the concrete on the street.

Do our leaders consider East Rockingham a lost cause?

Who has the answer to this problem, is it DOT’s responsibility or the City of Hamlet or Rockingham? After all they are citizens of Richmond County, and don’t send any smart answers, just because you don’t live in E-Rock.

Pastor Edward Ash

Rockingham

OMG! To all who responded to this man's letter, with the exception of loodylou (who seems to be the only one with sense), you have just reminded me of how stupid the people of Richmond county can be. Are loodylou and myself the only ones who actually understood what Mr. Ash was even talking about in his letter? He did not ask for help in the people of East Rockingham's yard, he asked, and plainly I might add, who was in charge of the upkeep of the roads.

Pastor edwardash-I realize that some cracy people post comments that probably have never studied Scripture or anything else.I consider you and I followers of the word. Now does the word teach that the city of Rockingham or the county of Richmond is responsible for loving your fellow man regardless of race, height or weight? The people in the county are not all churched.Does it not teach that all Christians are to go and tell, help all men.Pure and undefiled religion is to help the widows and childern that cannot help themselves. Now I do not live in East Rockingham, but there are many preachers and their congregations that do.So if you all do love your neighbor as your selves why don't you and them do something about those in the area who cannot help themselves. Many of these people probably have christian childern, why do they not help. The problem is that half the nation thinks the other half should supply their needs. The early church only gave ten percent, now the goverment gets thirty five percent or more plus all the other taxes and the church wants another ten percent to build the family life center, etc. Why build,he said I do not dwell in buildings made with hands so why build a building, your body is his resting place,he is in the believer(ACTS 7-48-49).Sell the church building and meet by a river,Sha'ul did.A little lumber would help fix up a few houses in your area.

Why do people have to be such idiots and disrespectful? The man simply asked a question and wanted a truthful answer. Put yourself in his place, not in E-Rock, but in his place. Would you like it if all the roads in your neighborhood were in poor condition? The people of E-Rock pay taxes just like everyone else. They all may not work but they have to pay property taxes. So, it doesn't matter that the writer is a preacher, it doesn't matter if the writer was the president. All that matters is he asked a simple question and wanted a simple answer. People like you are a disgrace to our universe because of your ignorant attitude. If you can't help someone then just don't respond.

Dash,

I will do just that and call in the morning. however your original letter does appear to be a bit pointed and more than just asking a question. at least own what appears to be your intention in the words that you used in the letter

take care

I was making a point about the road condition. If I seemed pointed, will you forgive me. I am concern not only for souls, but Richmond County as a whole. Can we move forward, from here, and be gentlemen?

It is actually DOT's responsibility to maintain the streets. I have driven through East Rockingham and I see it going down hill fast. This area was once very prosperous but over the last thirty years has seemed to lose its shine. My parents always spoke so proudly of this area but now see it as an embarrassment. Pride in the neighborhood beyond a few is seriously needed.

while it may not be a government solution, hasanyone brought this to thier attention? instead of bashing in the paper and pointing finger, why not pick up the phone and call the DOT, or the County. Chances are, they would do whatever they could to help the situation. Dont cast the first stone!

Crazy, not bashing asking a question. It seems like some folk get upset, and respond with arrogant answers, when a problem is brought forth in the town. Crazy, I have no stones but facts! Oh crazy, now that you know, beat me calling them!

The responsibility to keep the grass out of one's yard from growing into the street belongs to the owner of the property, simple as that. But, nothing against a neighbor/s doing the kindly thing and helping out if the owner is physically unable. Neighborhood pride goes a long way toward a well kept area. Try it!!

Pastor Ash-I do not have any smart comments and I am sure the Editor does not either for you have the power to solve the problem of getting the mans yard cleaned and getting rid of the grass growing in the streets.Round up will take care of the grass growing in concrete and the assembly of people in the churches in East rockingham should gather together and love their neightbors as they do themselves and help the man out.If the city or county sends some one out thats our tax money at work.Think how much the tax rate will go up if the city or county starts do yard work for the county. If they need a building built in another state churched people who are in the body of the Messiah go and help build the building thats called the congregation of the Messiah. Why not stay at home and let the church(THE PEOPLE)clean up East Rockingham.I just wonder, did you see any Christian stop to see if the man helping the man (the good samaritan)was saved or lost?Did you go over Pastor Ash?Now you may call this letter a smart letter but I CALL IT THINKING WITH AN OPEN MIND.

I do more than you think! It's not the yards I am talking about, it's into the streets, maybe one day you will go see what I am talking about. You must have no dealings with E-Rock. People can do for themselves and some do, but it's not the citizens responsibility for the road. I hope you are not an elected official.
