Dixie softball team wins state

EDEN — The Rockingham 10U Dixie All-Stars rallied to knock off West Brunswick in the state finals Wednesday evening.

The team trailed by two runs in its final at-bat before battling back to claim 3-2 win. With the victory, the 10U All-Stars will advance to the World Series in Georgetown, S.C. Rockingham will open play against the Alabama state winner at 10 a.m. on July 28.

In the Pony League Pony Division Piedmont Section, the Rockingham 14-year-old All-Stars defeated Archdale 3-0 in its opening game Tuesday evening. In the second round, Rockingham knocked off High Point White 9-5 Wednesday afternoon. The team will return to action at 6 p.m. today against the winner of the High Point White-Archdale contest.

Rockingham’s 13-year-old Pony All-Star team was rained out in Charlotte. The team will battle DC Force at 8 p.m. today in the second round of the Pony League Pony Division South Section.
