James Albert “Pete” Smith, 72, of Hamlet, passed away Friday, June 8, 2012, at his home.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at St. Mary’s Holiness Church with the Rev. Billy Quick, Pastor, officiating.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 1 to 6 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home of Hamlet.
Mr. Smith was born July 31, 1939, in Marlboro County, son of Mary Conwell Lovely and Oscar Smith. He attended Aaron Temple School in Marlboro County and Monroe Avenue School in Richmond County. He served in the United States Army.
Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include six daughters, Bonita Kay Alston of Baton Rouge, La., Belinda Whitley and Lisa Graham of Rockingham, Pamela Morrison of High Point, Priscilla Love of Hamlet and Debra Johnson of Rockingham; a step son, James Clifton Smith of Rockingham; two sisters, Olivia Wallace of High Point and Georganna Johnson of Hamlet; three brothers, Harley Lovely and Julius Lovely of Hamlet and Roosevelt Lovely of Orlando, Fla.; fifteen grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
