Pictures by Mark Lang of the Raleigh Astronomy Club. These were shot through a 4” Meade SCT (1000mm f/10) and a Canon XTi.

Mark Gibson has a home in Rockingham and is actively involved in the Raleigh Astronomy Club. After viewing last night's historic Venus transit, where Venus becomes visible moving between the sun and earth, he forwarded pictures to the Daily Journal, taken by club member Mark Lang.

"I was with a large group RAC members and guests out at Prairie Ridge in west Raleigh," wrote Lang in his email. "Our skies stayed generally good so we managed to see the whole thing only being bothered by clouds occasionally. It was amazing to see this rare event! Our seeing was not the best, but I did get a few shots that were not too bad."

It's not likely that you will get to see the Venus transit again, as the next one is to take place in the year 2117.
