ROCKINGHAM — At Monday’s Richmond Senior Athletic Banquet, the coaches and administration recognized several accomplishments throughout the season.

The boys basketball team was saluted for advancing to the third round of the 4A state playoffs which was the longest for any of the Raider teams until the baseball squad’s deep squad in the postseason this spring.

In total eight of Richmond’s squads advanced to the playoffs this year. Besides basketball and baseball, the only other Raider team to move into the second round was softball.

Richmond had 41 players named all-conference, not including the baseball. That team will be announced when the Raiders are eliminated from the playoffs.

The girls soccer, boys tennis and softball all-conference squads were announced at the banquet. Brittany Hudson, Brittany Roberts, Hannah Rodriguez and Lashonda York were selected for soccer, while Alex Auman, Colt Auman and Brandon Ingram were named for tennis.

In softball, five Richmond players were honored. Casey Snead was named as the Southeastern Conference Player of the Year, while Cierra Bowden, Ashton Davenport, Summer Jacobs and Jennifer Steen were also named to the team.

Also presented at the banquet were several special awards. Alex Clark and Roberts received the Charles and Claudette Brownley Booster Club Scholarship. Melita Ingram, Hudson and Snead were selected for the Kristen Rankin Athletic Memorial Scholarship.

Corey Smart, Hudson and Roberts wrapped up the evening when they were named the W.T. Bellamy Outstanding Student-Athletes.
