Dear Editor,
In a few days, those who have not already voted will be voting in the primary. One extremely important issue on the ballot is the Constitutional Amendment defining marriage as a union between one man and one woman. This is especially important to Christians.
Jesus instructs us to vote “Yes” because He said, “Have ye not read, that He which made them at the beginning made them male and female, / …for this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? / Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.” (Matthew 19:4-6)
Not only is voting “Yes” on the Marriage Amendment important for Christians, but voting, period, is important for Christians. A great deal of American blood has been shed from the Revolutionary War right up until today, by our courageous soldiers, to ensure our right to vote in free elections. Neglecting this right, for whatever reason, is showing disrespect to the blood sacrifices made on our behalf!
We Christians will all face Jesus at the Judgment Seat of Christ “…that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” (II Corinthians 5:10b) Can you imagine standing before Jesus face to face? We will not have father, grandfather, preacher, or chairman of our political party to stand with us. We will stand alone and (among many other things) give account as to why we voted as we did or why we didn’t vote at all!
“It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” (Hebrews 10:31)

Jesus was about love, this amendment does nothing but promote hate and harm both hetero and homo-sexual couples. If you truly ask yourself what Jesus would want, I doubt it would to pass an amendment promoting discrimination and harming others.
You've taken that quote from Matthew out of context. But that's okay, that's what excitedly political Christians do. A careful reading of Matthew 9 reveals The passage you quoted is about divorce. Jesus was against divorce. The passage has nothing at all to do with homosexual marriage.
Maybe, considering how Jesus felt about divorce, we should amend the constitution to ban divorce? But, I'm wondering, Mr. Shutt, did you deliberately use the quote out of context, or did you simply not know what you were doing?
Some have been led to believe that our Constitution promotes a separation from God. That isn't true. The Constitution promotes a separation from denomination, not God. No denomination must rule, however, our founders believed that God should be the head of this nation. The 'Mayflower Compact, The Great Seal and the statute of every state proves it. Even John Jay, Our first Supreme Court Justice said that it is better for America that all our leaders be Christian. As Supreme Court Justice, John Jay knew the laws of America very well
