On April 14, Boy Scout Troop 64 held an Eagle Scout Ceremony at First Presbyterian Church in Rockingham.

The awarding of the Eagle Scout Award is a very prestigious honor; the climax and the goal for which a scout works many years, an occasion for pride and joy, and a time for serious contemplation. It is the culmination of efforts of the various leaders of the Scout.

The recipients of this prestigious award were: Jonathan Porter (Eagle project: refurbish and revitalized an outdoor theatre at RSHS), Zachary Peele (Eagle project: updated and refurbished a Sunday school classroom at Glenwood United Methodist Church), William Ray (Eagle project: completed a landscaping project at the Washington Street entrance to RSHS)and Thomas Teal (Eagle project: upgraded and refurbished a playground at Cameronian Presbyterian Church).

Following the ceremony there was a reception in the Fellowship Hall at the church.

The Eagle Award is the highest and most coveted rank in Scouting; the last major step in the advancement program. To achieve the Eagle Scout Award participants must: earn 21 merit badges, including 12 required badges; serve in a troop leadership position for a period of 6 months after becoming a Life Scout; plan, develop, and carry out a service project worthy of an Eagle Scout; and appear before the Eagle Board and satisfy that he has done his best to understand and live up to the Scout Oath and Law, and, in all other ways meet the requirements to qualify for the Eagle Scout Award.

Fewer than 2 percent of all scouts in the United States reach the Eagle Rank.
