The Richmond County Human Relations Council was scheduled to hold its Diversity Banquet Friday evening, but the event has been postponed.

Mark your calendars for the new date, which is Friday, June 1, at 6:30 p.m. at Cole Auditorium.

The diversity banquet’s intent is to educate — and entertain — about various ethnicities in the county through cultural expressions, said Kimberly Harrington, who is co-chairing the banquet with Dot Bynum.

“The Human Relations Council advocates fair treatment and encourages understanding and respect among all citizens,” said Harrington. “This banquet will enable us to reach this objective by offering creative expressions and insight from different ethnic groups.

“We want to have various cultures represented through song, dance, music, poetic expressions and the like, but many of the groups we hoped to secure had scheduling conflicts. In order for the program to be successful, it must reflect the diversity of the community in which we live. So we hope by moving the date, more groups can be represented,” she said.

Anyone wanting to participate in the program on June 1 should call Harrington at 704-294-9431 or Bynum at 910-582-0848.
