The Richmond County Chamber of Commerce is encouraging community members to show support for the upcoming NASCAR Camping World Truck Series Good Sam Roadside Assistance Carolina 200 presented by Cheerwine, on April 15, at The Rock.

Thousands of race fans are expected to return to Rockingham Speedway for the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series, announced the Chamber in a recent media release.

The Chamber is asking businesses with changeable signs or marquees to post welcome greetings for race fans and NASCAR, and those without signs are encouraged to put up banners outside their businesses.

“With thousands of visitors coming into Richmond County for our motorsports events at Rockingham Speedway and Rockingham Dragway, every effort should be made by the local merchants to show our visitors that we appreciate them and welcome them to our community,” said Chamber President Emily Tucker. “Our local businesses will be the ones benefiting from these large events, and this will be a big economic boost for our local economy. This signage program has been successful over the past years with many businesses participating so let’s show NASCAR that Richmond County is where they belong.”

The wording may be only a simple “Welcome Home NASCAR” or “Welcome Race Fans,” or something more elaborate. TRG Sign Company, of Rockingham, is offering a special discount to Chamber members who purchase a banner for their business.

Banner pricing for Chamber Member banners includes: (2x6) $50 for one sided, $75 for two sided; (2x8) $75 for one sided, $110 for two sided; and (3x8) $100 for one sided, $150 for two sided. Other sizes and wording customization is available.

“We’ve already had five or six orders for banners,” said Joel Padgett, TRG owner. “We expect the first order of banners to arrive next week.”

Some community members are planning to participate by hanging banners at their homes.

“I’ve ordered a red and white banner that I’m going to put up at my house,” said Pam Dillman, who lives on Fayetteville Road, in Rockingham. “I’m so proud of Andy Hillenburg, and how he was able to put this all together. It’s so exciting that NASCAR is coming back to this wonderful community.”

Race weekend kicks off with Thunderfest on Friday, April 13, from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. and on Saturday, April 14, there will be a pre-race concert on the grounds of Rockingham Speedway featuring Little Texas. Tickets to Saturday or Sunday’s race will grant fans free admission to the Saturday concert.
