Mrs. Lillian Smith Barber of Laurel Hill passed away on Monday, February 13, 2012 at the age of 84.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 15, 2012 at the Richard Boles Funeral Service Chapel officiated by Rev. Andy Stewart. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
Mrs. Barber was born in Hamlet, North Carolina on April 29, 1927, daughter of the late Belton and Nona Smith. She was a loving mother and the beloved wife for more than 50 years to the late Alex Barber. As a young lady, she worked with the Buttercup Ice Cream Company and then retired in textiles from Springs Mills after many years of service. She was a faithful member for more than 34 years of Fletcher Chapel Wesleyan Church where she served as Sunday School teacher, choir member, former secretary and board member. Lillian loved her family and she loved her church.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is also preceded in death by brothers, James “Son” Smith and Rudolph Smith.
Surviving are her sons, James “Jay” Barber and wife Linda of Laurinburg, Clarence Barber and wife Sandra of Laurel Hill; brothers, Belton Smith of Rockingham, David Marshall Smith of Laurel Hill, Floyd Smith of Hamlet; sisters, Clara Herndon of Laurel Hill, Irene Polston of Cheraw, SC, Pearl Olerude of Hamlet; two grandchildren, Many McPherson and Eric Pristner; seven great grandchildren, Ashley Fields, Morgan Fields, Kaden Fields, Natalie McPherson, Valeria Pristner, Sofia Pristner, Gabriela Pristner and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m. prior to the service on Wednesday at Richard Boles Funeral Service.
