Connie Edward Legrand, 62, 212 Boone St., Rockingham, N.C., died on Wednesday, Dec. 14, 2011, at his home.

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 21, 2011, at 2 p.m. at New Bethel A.M.E. Zion Church – 113 Bethel Church Road, Hamlet, N.C., with Rev. Bula C. LeGrand officiating. Burial will follow in the Northside Cemetery, Rockingham.

Public viewing will be held on Tuesday from 1 to 6 p.m. and family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Service in Rockingham.

He was born Mar. 19, 1949, in Richmond County, son of the late Connie LeGrand and Catherine Capel-LeGrand.

He was educated in the Richmond County School System and graduated from Leak Street High School in 1968. He served in the United States Army where he became a Military Police Officer.

He is survived by his wife, Marian of Hamlet; his children, Ronald LeGrand, Ponda LeGrand-Vaughan of Hamlet, Rozetta Jackson of Orange Park, Fla., Octavis “Ken” Richardson of Hamlet, and Ashley Broughton of Rochester, N.Y.; 13 grandchildren; brothers, John LeGrand of Rockingham, and Calvin LeGrand of Buffalo, N.Y.

Nelson Funeral Service of Rockingham is serving the family.
