The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for Richmond and surrounding counties, in effect until Thursday.
There is a slight risk of severe thunderstorms across all of central North Carolina late this afternoon, into tonight. A strong cold front will approach from the northwest this afternoon and cross the area overnight.
A line of showers and embedded thunderstorms is expected along and immediately ahead of the front.
A few storms could become severe, with a primary threat of damaging winds. An isolated tornado will also be possible.
The greatest threat for severe weather will be between 4 p.m. and midnight in the western Piedmont and east of Highway 1.
