Alma Barrington Smith

Mrs. Alma Barrington Smith, 90, of 220 West Ave., Hamlet, died Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at Rockingham Manor, Rockingham.

She was born in Richmond County, Jan. 21, 1921, daughter of Fred Barrington and Ethel Quick Barrington.

Mrs. Smith was a member of Nebo Wesleyan Church and a homemaker. She was both a “father and a mother” to her daughters, as her husband died when her girls were very young.

Visitation will be Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2011, at Harrington Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2011, at Nebo Wesleyan Church at 2 p.m. with Rev. Jeff Collins and Rev. Nathan Barrington officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery.

She is preceded in death by her late husband, Jonah Prevatte; daughter, Patsy Prevatte; and brothers, Ernest, Nathan and Eugene Barrington.

Survivors include her daughters, Jo Ann Brigman of the home and Shirley Wright of Rockingham; granddaughter, Wendy Snipes and husband, Willie; great-granddaughter, Angel Shankle and husband, Robbie and great grandson, Boe Snipes III; great-great-grandsons, Robbie Shankle III and Cayden Shankle.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Nebo Wesleyan Church Building Fund, 1830 Airport Road, Hamlet, N.C. 28345.

Harrington Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the family of Mrs. Smith.
