The National Weather Service has issued a Flash Flood Watch for Richmond County and central N.C., in effect until 7 a.m. Wednesday.
Showers and scattered thunderstorms spread over the Piedmont this morning, with increasing coverage by early afternoon. Periods of showers and thunderstorms with heavy rain will remain possible through tonight. One to 3 inches of rain is expected, with higher amounts possible.
Once the ground becomes saturated and the more widespread showers and storms arrive, flash flooding of low lying areas along creeks and streams will be possible.
A Flash Flood Watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding, which is a very dangerous situation. You should monitor later forecasts and be prepared to take action should a warning be issued.
