Mrs. Peggy Jean Ward, 73, of 134 Dawkins St., Rockingham died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at her home. She was born May 31, 1938 in Scotland County, a daughter of the late James Isaiah Cooke and Ethel Louise Powell Cooke.

Mrs. Ward was a charter member of Jesus First Free Will Baptist Church and was retired from the textile industry. She, also, worked in the day care program with Temple Baptist Church School.

Funeral services will be conducted 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 27th at Sweet Haven Church, 424 Midway Rd., Rockingham with Rev. Jerry Smith, Rev. Larry Joyner and Rev. Mitchell Roller officiating. Interment will follow in Richmond Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.

Surviving are her children, Melissa Ward Love of Hendersonville, Becky Ward Campbell, Robert Ward and Joe Ward, all of Rockingham; eighteen grandchildren and nineteen great grandchildren; sisters, Sherry Summersett and Mary Quick, both of Rockingham; brothers, Bobby Cooke of Rockingham and John Cooke of East Norrington, PA. Mrs. Ward was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Bobby” Leon Ward, Sr. in 1995.
