Municipal filings continued on Wednesday with an incumbent councilman throwing his hat into the ring, along with a challenger who is making a bid for the unexpired seat on the Dobbins Heights Town Council.

Tony Clewis filed to seek re-election to the Hamlet City Council and Curtis Ratliff is seeking a seat on the Dobbins Heights Town Council.

The filing period for the 2011 Richmond County Municipal Elections, to be held in October and November, ends July 15 at noon.

On the 2011 slate are the mayoral races for Rockingham, Hamlet, Ellerbe, Dobbins Heights, Hoffman and Norman, as well as council seats for each city or town. Three council seats will be up for grabs in Rockingham, Hamlet and Norman, while two seats will be decided in Ellerbe and Dobbins Heights and the voters will decide five seats in Hoffman.

In order to run for municipal office, a candidate must have residency in the town for which they seek office.

For more information, contact the Richmond County Board of Elections at (910) 997-8253. It is located at 221 Hancock Street, Rockingham.
