Mr. James Gilbert Maples, 95, 128 Gibbons Street, Hamlet, died on Sunday, June 19, 2011, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 19, 1915, in Cameron, the son of Mr. Kay Maples and Mrs. Gertrude Kivett Maples.

Mr. Maples was a member of Second Baptist Church, Hamlet, previously worked as a conductor and a member of United Transportation Union. He was married to the late Ruby Richardson Maples.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at Harrington Funeral Home from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral service will be Thursday, June 23, 2011, at Second Baptist Church at 11 a.m. with Rev. Chris Hawks officiating. Burial will follow at Richmond Memorial Park.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruby R. Maples; son, Donnie Maples; and two brothers, A.K. and Jesse Maples.

Survivors include his sons, James David Maples of North Myrtle Beach, S.C., Bill Maples of Vass, Pat Maples of Hamlet and Joe Maples of the home; sister, Winnie Weatherly of Hamlet; seven grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.
