Joseph W. Norton Sr., 69, of Rockingham, died Tuesday, Mar. 1, 2011, at his home. He was born Feb. 17, 1942, in Elizabethtown, a son of the late Walter Norton and Annie Katherine Willard Norton Scott. Joe served his country in the US Marine Corps and worked as a mobile home serviceman until his retirement.

Memorial services were conducted Monday, March 7, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home Chapel in Rockingham with Pastor Marvin Taylor and Pastor Charles Barton officiating.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Joann Norton; a sister, Mary Ellen Scott Clark; and a brother, James Walter Norton.

Surviving are his wife, Florence Bass Norton; four daughters, Rosa Norton Hughes of Rockingham, Jannie Ann “Cookie” Norton of Fort Worth, Texas, Dorothy Ann Joyner of Ohio, and Annie Katherine Norton of Rockingham; a son, Joseph William Norton Jr. of McColl, S.C.; two sisters, Stella Ann Lockley of Maxton and Dora Mae Norton of Rockingham; two brothers, Ricky Wayne Scott of Tenn. and Charles “Willie” Scott of Rockingham; seven grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
