The drivers of both vehicles involved in a head-on collision north of Rockingham were killed Sunday afternoon.

In another case, both drivers involved in a head-on collision that killed a two-year-old girl close to Roberdel 10 days ago will face criminal charges.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol investigated both cases.

In Sunday’s accident, Jennifer Howard, 28, of Palmer Road, Marston, is believed to have been driving a mid-size car south on U.S. 1 near Cognac Road, north of Rockingham, when she crossed the center line and struck an oncoming pickup truck.

The truck was being driven by Edward McCoy, 64, of Kings Drive, Wadesboro.

Both Howard and McCoy are believed to have been traveling about 55 miles an hour, and both died as a result of the collision. There were no other people involved.

In the collision near Roberdel more than a week ago that claimed the life of 2-year-old Brianna Woods, both drivers will face charges.

The accident occurred on Dec. 11 just before 1 a.m. on Bear Branch Road between the intersections with McNeill Road and Hall Road.

Troopers believe Tongi Webb, 34, of Ellerbe Hatchery Road, Ellerbe, crossed the center line going about 55 miles an hour and struck an oncoming truck.

The truck was being driven by Nicole Townsend, 23, of Haywood Parker Road, Ellerbe; and had three passengers, 27-year-old Larry Woods, 2-year-old Brianna Woods and 3-month-old Bryce Woods.

Three-month-old Bryce was in a proper child safety seat and survived the impact, but Brianna was not properly restrained and died.

Webb has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, and Townsend has been charged with a child restraint violation.
