James “Pie” Henry Steele, 70, of Rockingham, died Oct. 28, 2010, at FirstHealth Richmond Memorial Hospital. He was born Feb. 14, 1940 in Richmond County, a son of Flora Jones Steele and the late George Henry Steele.

Mr. Steele served in the U.S. Air Force and retired from Industrial Sheet Metal. He was a member of Joy Freewill Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School teacher and assistant choir director.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, Oct. 31, 2010 at 3 p.m. at Joy Freewill Baptist Church with Rev. June Grant and James Hinson officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Surviving, his wife of 49 years, Peggy Lunceford Steele of Rockingham; his children; Gregory Lee Steele of Hamlet and Amy Steele Chambers and husband Bobby of Rockingham; grandchildren, Hannah and Rebekah Chambers; his mother, Flora Jones Steele; sisters, Doretha Duncan of Poca, W.Va., Pud Therrell of Jacksonville, Fla., and Becky Wilson of Lexington, S.C.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. at Watson-King Funeral Home in Rockingham and at other times at the home 124 Sharon Drive, Rockingham.
