Staff Brief

Meteorologists were tracking the development of a severe thunderstorm that spawned a tornado over Texas. The tornado caused major structural damage to Rice Elementary School and flipped over an 18-wheeler. Four people were hurt.

As of Monday morning, 51 counties in North Carolina are under alert. Moore, Montgomery, Scotland, Anson, and Richmond counties were placed under severe thunderstorm watch.

Forecasts predict showers through Thursday. Weather officials say the end of the week will clear up, leaving temperatures back into the 80s just in time for the Halloween weekend.
