HAMLET — Police are still searching for a man they say robbed a woman outside Food Lion Monday afternoon.

According to investigators with the Hamlet Police Department, the elderly woman came out of the store around 4 p.m., walked by the corner and the suspect snatched her purse, causing her to fall to the pavement.

She received minor injuries and was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Police have received descriptions of the man and his vehicle from several eye-witnesses. The only available photo is from a security camera and investigators are not sure of specific descriptive features including height, hair and eye color.

The suspect’s vehicle is described as a silver or dark gray, newer-model full-sized 4-door pickup truck — police are not sure of the make — with rack on top.

Police say they have several leads, but as of Wednesday afternoon did not have a definite suspect.

The photo was posted to the department’s Facebook page at 4:15 Monday and had been shared 137 times by the same time Wednesday.

Police ask residents not to post photos of who they think the suspect might be, but instead send information to the inbox on the Facebook page, call the department at 910-582-2551 or Richmond County Crime Stoppers at 910-997-5454.

The suspect will likely be charged with common law robbery, a felony, and misdemeanor assault, according to police.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
