HAMLET — Two additional suspects have been charged in a Monday midday shooting that sent a man to a hospital.

Police arrested 20-year-old Devion Marquis Ward, of Rockingham, on Tuesday and 21-year-old Shakeim Pleasure Weeks, of Hoffman, on Wednesday. A 17-year-old suspect, whose name has not been released because of his age, was arrested the day of the shooting.

All three suspects are charged with one felony count each of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and conspiracy.

They are accused of shooting a man mulitple times on Pine Street before noon Monday.

Hamlet Police Chief Scott Waters previously told the Daily Journal officers were dispatched at 11:54 a.m. on Monday to 702 Pine Street where a man was said to be laying in the street, after a caller described hearing four to six gunshots.

As he approached the scene, Waters said he saw the victim walk down Monroe Avenue then lay down on a porch.

The victim, also whose name has not been released, was flown to a hospital and police say he is in stable condition, recovering from his injuries.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office aided in the investigation, which is still ongoing.

The three suspects were still in the Richmond County Jail late Thursday: Weeks under a $100,000 secured bond; Ward under a $85,000 secured bond; and the unnamed teen under a $75,000 secured bond.

Ward was also arrested on outstanding warrants from an unrelated case on multiple misdemeanor charges: two counts of assault by pointing a gun; one count of assault and battery; one count of assault on a female; one count of communicating threats; and one count of injury to personal property.

Online court records show he also has pending felony charges of uttering forged instrument, obtaining property by false pretenses and possession of five or more counterfeit instruments.

Weeks also has several pending charges: three felony counts of breaking and entering; three felony counts of larceny after breaking and entering; two felony counts of larceny of a firearm; one felony count of obtaining property by false pretenses; and a misdemeanor count of possession of stolen goods or property.

He received a 36-month suspended sentence in April after being convicted of one felony count each of breaking and entering and larceny after breaking and entering in Scotland County, according to records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction.

Ward has no prior adult convictions.

This is the fourth shooting with a victim in that area since May 1, two of which were at the Hamlet Food Mart. Police have made arrests in those cases, but not the one at a home on Spring Street.

Another teen was arrested in May following a shootout on Washington Avenue, where no one was hit.

All defendants facing criminal charges are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
