HAMLET — A suspect in two Thursday morning break-ins is still on the run.

Police are looking for a man they believe is responsible for breaking into a home on Terry Street around 10:30 a.m. He is also accused of breaking into a vehicle at the Kangaroo station on N.C. 177 earlier in the day.

According to Detective Lt. Heather Wyatt, several items — including a camera — were taken from both locations.

She said police were able to recover some of the stolen items because the suspect — described as a black man wearing red pants — dropped them while running from the scene.

Deputies from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office and a K-9 unit from the Rockingham Police Department assisted in the nearly-two-hour manhunt in the surrounding area, which included an abandoned house.

Wyatt said investigators believe they have identified the suspect, but she was not ready to release his name.

Another suspect, 36-year-old Deana Michelle Brock — listed on the warrant as Deana Poplin — was arrested and charged with a felony count of breaking and entering. She was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $5,000 secured bond.

Online court records show she has a pending charge of misdemeanor larceny under the name Deana Poplin.

According to the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction, she was sentenced to probation in 2007 after being convicted of driving with a revoked license in Anson County.
