ROCKINGHAM — A Moore County man wanted in connection with an alleged murder attempt in Hoffman last month is now in custody.

Tevin Barrington Spencer, 21, was arrested by officers with the Southern Pines Police Department around 2 a.m. Saturday, according to Capt. Jay Childers of the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Spencer is accused of going to a man’s house with two other suspects to kill a man and shooting into a home occupied by two children.

He has already been indicted on three counts of attempted first-degree murder and discharging a weapon into an occupied property.

Southern Pines police have charged him with: felony possession of marijuana; felony possession of cocaine; intimidating a witness; possession of a stolen firearm; possession of marijuana paraphernalia; possession with intent to sell or deliver marijuana; and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Spencer was booked into the Moore County Detention Center under a $600,000 secured bond.

Deputies say 31-year-old Anisha Nicole McLean, of Hailey Ames Road in Hoffman, drove Spencer and 23-year-old Jason Marcus McLean — both from Moore County — to a home on James Kelly Drive the afternoon of July 14 to kill a man the woman was having domestic issues with.

When they arrived, the two men fired an unspecified amount of shots into the home with handguns, according to deputies. The intended target, Quenton D’Angelo Zinnerman, was in the backyard.

No one was injured during the incident.

After the attempt on Zinnerman’s life, the suspects fled the scene.

Anisha McLean was arrested later that day following a traffic stop during the investigation. She was initially charged with one count of attempted first-degree murder and jailed under a $100,000 bond. However, deputies later added two more attempted murder charges and a count of discharging a firearm into an occupied property. Her bond was then raised to $350,000.

Jason McLean was arrested the following day and charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder and discharging a firearm into an occupied property. He was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $350,000 bond.

Online court records show he has several other pending charges in Moore County: possession with intent to sell or deliver cocaine, selling cocaine and delivering cocaine.

Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show both Spencer and McLean have a criminal history.

Spencer’s record includes felony convictions on charges of robbery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of common-law robbery and six charges related to breaking and entering and larceny.

McLean served a month behind bars following a 2011 conviction of common-law robbery. He has also been convicted on misdemeanor charges of possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance and having a dangerous weapon on state property.
