ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond Senior baseball team suffered its first loss of the season to Northwest Guilford on Friday night.

Richmond (5-1) had its last chance to get something going in the bottom of the seventh inning, trailing by six runs with two outs and the bases loaded, but junior third baseman Braxton Furstein went down to a 1-3 count and the Raiders fell 7-1 at home.

NW Guilford only led by two runs at the top of the seventh inning. Things quickly got out of hand, however, as the first five batters scored three runs on one hit in order to take a 6-1 lead. Joey Rezek would record an RBI single for the visiting team’s final run.

Richmond’s only score came in the bottom of the first inning after Chase Haywood hit a double, got to third on a wild pitch and came home on a sacrifice fly from Drew Loving.

The Raiders had an opportunity to put runs on board in the bottom of the third when they had the bases load following three consecutive singles from Haywood, Loving and Jonathan Lee. But back-to-back strikeouts closed the inning, leaving three runners on base.

Connor Smith, who was the lead-off batter, hit an inside-the-park home run in the top of fifth for NW Guilford. The Vikings finished the game with eight hits.

Next up for the Raiders is a home game against West Montgomery on Monday.

MT. GILEAD — Kayla Hawkins’ home run in the bottom of the second inning propelled the Richmond Senior softball team to a dominant road victory on Friday evening.

Richmond scored nine more runs over the next three innings and defeated West Montgomery 10-0.

Owen Bowers would follow Hawkins’ homer with one of her own in the top of the third. The rest of the runs for the Lady Raiders came in the top of the fourth inning, as Peyton Fann got the team going with her score.

Greyson Way would cap things off by hitting a solo homer, giving Richmond its 10th and final run.

Richmond (5-1) will travel to Anson on Wednesday, Mar. 15.
