ROCKINGHAM — They’re not done, yet.

Richmond Senior’s boys and girls basketball teams will be competing in the West bracket of the 4A NCHSAA State Playoffs. The boys drew a No. 16 seed, while the girls are entering the tournament as the No. 31 seed.

All playoff brackets were originally due to be released Saturday, but computer problems forced the seeding to be postponed a day. Both the boys and girls brackets were finalized around 4:15 p.m. Sunday.

Richmond’s boys will host No. 18 Zebulon B. Vance on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Vance (16-4) comes into the matchup following a 11-point loss to North Mecklenburg in the conference tournament championship game last Friday. It finished the regular season third in the MECKA conference and was able to grab an early-season win over Independence — who took down Richmond in the second round of the Holiday in the Pines tournament.

Richmond (17-3) was on a five-game win streak before falling to Hoke County in the SEC tournament title game three days ago. The Raiders are looking to win a first-round home game for the third year in a row, as they have defeated Ben L. Smith in Raider Gymnasium the last two years.

The winner of Tuesday’s game will face the winner of No. 1 seed Butler and No. 31 seed R.J. Reynolds.

Richmond’s girls will travel to No. 4 Ardrey Kell on Tuesday at 7 p.m.

Ardrey Kell (18-2) won its conference tournament over South Mecklenburg last week and is looking to win its sixth game in a row. The Lady Knights finished first in their conference during the regular season.

Richmond (10-10) is back in the postseason for the first time since 2014. The Lady Raiders’ last game was a loss to Lumberton — the No. 2 seed in the East bracket — in the conference tournament semifinals.

“We did stress that this is the next level, so we have to elevate our game as individuals and as a team. Because the pressure will most definitely be on,” girls coach Rosalind McDonal said. “We don’t know anything about that school and they don’t know anything about us. And the best thing we can do is go out there and play how we know how to play.”

This will be the first playoff appearance for the second-year coach, who is familiar with being an underdog in the postseason. McDonald was a member of the 1998 N.C. State team that reached the Final Four after upsetting basketball powerhouse Connecticut in the Elite Eight.

“Truthfully, we didn’t think that we would get a chance (at the playoffs),” McDonald said. “But now that we’re in there, we’re going to try to make the best of it. We told them not to be satisfied with making it to the first round. We’re trying to advance.”

The winner of the girls game will advance to the second round and face the winner of No. 12 seed Butler and No. 20 seed North Mecklenburg.
