ROCKINGHAM — Terry Goff (Kinston), William Brewer (St. Pauls), Richard Alford (Raleigh) and Brian Thompson (Sneads Ferry) were the big money winners in Tony Saraceni’s Carolina Powerfest4 bracket race extravaganza that concluded Sunday at Rockingham Dragway.

The three-day event, presented by Yuengling, crowned daily champions in Top ET and Footbrake, as well as Saturday and Sunday winners in Jr. Dragster. In addition to the cash winnings, racers claimed more than 200 “Blue Light Special” prizes.

Goff and Brewer both left with more than $6,250 in prize money after splitting Saturday’s winner and runner-up purse due to falling track temperatures. Alford won $6,000 as the Friday winner and Sunday semifinalist in Top ET and Thompson — who drove the dragster of Danny Walters, Jr. — won the final $5,000 share of the purse on Sunday.

It was a great family weekend for the Alford brothers, who are both Rockingham regulars. In addition to Richard’s take-home in Top ET, brother Steve repeated as Footbrake champion on Friday and, with his Saturday payday as a semifinalist, took $2,300 back home to Angier. That was the same payoff earned by Tim Betterton (Gretna, Va.) who won $2,000 as the Footbrake champion on Sunday and $150 as a semifinalist on Saturday.

Except for Saturday’s chilly finish, it was a banner weekend with 167 Top ET and 86 Footbrake racers competing on Saturday alone.

Connor Caulder (St. Pauls) just missed a double in Jr. Dragster, winning on Sunday after losing to Brian Yerger Jr. on a breakout foul in the Saturday final.

Big trailer checks, trophies and plaques were awarded to the winners and runners-up and special awards were presented for Best Appearing Dragster, Best Appearing Door Car, Best Appearing Footbrake Car, Best Appearing Crew and Best Engineered.
