Random thoughts from Tony Stewart’s right front quarter panel.

I wrote a column a few weeks ago about Kyle Busch and his comments about his team after a parts failure at Bristol. I had some choice things to say about his maturity level for trashing his team. Fast forward to last Sunday and Kevin Harvick, who had a dominant car and had a great chance to win, lost the race after a couple of terrible pit stops by his crew. Harvick, then publicly criticized his crew, saying he was through being a “cheerleader” for the group. I will say the same thing I said about Busch: keep it in house. No good comes from publicly trashing your guys.

Appalachian State got screwed. By their own coach.

I hope we see Dale Earnhardt Jr. back in 2017. It takes a lot for a guy to say he doesn’t belong in a racecar right now, which Junior did last weekend.

I’m proud of Tony Stewart, too. After getting called to the NASCAR hauler for hooking Brian Scott and turning him into the inside wall, Stewart said, “Hey man, made it 25 races, I’d say that’s pretty good.” For Stewart that is pretty good. I am going to miss him next year.

Hey Timmy: No. Just no. Football, baseball, hockey. All of ‘em. Just no.

As much as I loved the John Wes Townley/Spencer Gallagher “fight” earlier this year, I think I like what happened between John Hunter Nemechek and Cole Custer in Canada better. If you haven’t watched the end of the race and the subsequent quasi-tackle, I highly suggest it.

As I am writing this, Ole Miss is killing Florida State. (I wrote this before Dalvin Cook fumbled the ball untouched as he was going in for a touchdown). But…then I woke up Tuesday morning and see that FSU scored 38 second-half points. Football is a weird game, man.

Jimmie Johnson has won three times at Darlington. Sunday night he wrecked by himself and finished 33rd. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: things are not good at Hendrick.

Acknowledging the problem is the first step, right? I have a fantasy football problem. I am in six leagues this year, including one in which you win by having terrible players who do bad things like throw interceptions, drop passes and fumble and defenses that give up lots of points and yards. I promise, this is the last time you read about my fantasy football teams.

Seriously, Tony Stewart blamed what happened with Brian Scott on “old tires.” I am seriously going to miss him next year. I have old tires on my truck and I never turn right and hook people on highway. I mean, I want to, but if I did, it wouldn’t be the tires’ fault.

Martin Truex Jr. and his Furniture Row Racing team moved from Chevrolet to Toyota and entered into a technical alliance with Joe Gibbs Racing for 2016. I’d say that move has paid off.

Heading into the last race before the Chase at Richmond this week, Chris Buescher, who won at Pocono in July, is 11 points ahead of David Ragan for the magical 30th-place finish. Nothing against Buescher, but I hope he misses the Chase just to see how NASCAR responds.

On a serious note about Stewart and Scott, NASCAR has been using the clip of the wreck all day (Monday). It would be quite hypocritical if they fine Stewart for it. I’m betting they will anyway.
