Girls cross country takes first place

SMITHFIELD — The Richmond Senior girls cross country team totaled 47 points and finished in first place at the Smithfield Selma Cross Country Invitational this past Saturday, Aug. 20.

Clayton was the runner-up with 62 points.

Cameron Hudson and Summer Moore were the two Lady Raiders who finished in the top 10 — third and fourth, respectively. Harmony Jones finished 12th, Cassie McFayden 15th, Aerial Brown 17th, Emma Stogner 25th, Emily Buie 30th and Brandi Miller 31st.

The boys cross country team finished fourth overall, as Zachariah Hamilton came in 19th place, Joseph Nicholson 28th, Kristofer Spivey 30th, Tyler Parker 31st and Dylan Richardson 35th.

Both teams are scheduled to run in the Jungle Run Invitational at South View High School on Saturday, Sept. 3.

Volleyball grabs a win at UNC-P

PEMBROKE — The Lady Raider volleyball team participated in the Black and Gold classic at UNC-Pembroke this past Saturday, Aug. 20 — winning one of its four matches.

Only two sets were played in each match.

Richmond Senior’s first match against Midway ended in a 1-1 tie, as it fell in the first set (26-24), before winning the next set 25-18.

South Columbus and Overhills would both defeat Richmond two sets to none, before the Lady Raiders grabbed a 2-0 victory over Cape Fear to end the day.

Richmond (1-3-1) hosts West Montgomery on Tuesday, Aug. 23 at 5:30 p.m.
