ROCKINGHAM — Pinecrest’s Nik Pry and Richmond Senior’s Ricky Young headline the Southeastern Conference’s baseball list that includes all-conference members, conference player of the year and conference coach of the year.

Pry recorded 32 hits, 17 RBIs, two home runs and batted .326 on the season. The sophomore helped the Patriots to a 20-9 season in which they won the SEC tournament championship and made it to the second round of the state playoffs.

Teammates Seth Caddell and Jack Carpenter joined Pry on the All-Conference team.

Young coached Richmond to a 20-8 overall record with an 8-2 record in the conference. The Raiders won 11 of their 16 home games, boasted a 7-1 record on the road and split games 2-2 at neutral sites. They also won by 10 or more runs on five different occassions during the regular season.

Richmond was crowned SEC regular season champions, but fell in extra innings to Butler in the third round of the state playoffs. Before their Sweet 16 exit, a walk-off walk against Mount Tabor and three RBIs in the fifth inning of the East Forsyth matchup helped the Raiders advance — they won both games by a score of 3-2.

Along with Young, six of his players were named All-SEC for their play throughout the 2016 season — sophomore Jonathan Lee, junior Chase Haywood and seniors Nick Honeycutt, Dalton Leviner, Bryce Dixon and Corey Dove.

Scotland’s Cross Holfert, Nicholas Charleson, Justin Bowers and Donta Green made All-Conference, as well as Purnell Swett’s Matthias Carter, McKinley Strickland, Lucas Oxendine and Matt Strickland.

Rounding out the selections are Hoke County’s Jacob Rushing and Lumberton’s Evan Odum, Alec Brewington and Daniel Carter.
