ROCKINGHAM — Reigning track champion Lee Desist of Fayetteville battled his way through weather and rivals Saturday to win one of two Top ET titles at the second annual Spring Bracket Showdown at Rockingham Dragway.

Desist used a .006 reaction time and a .015 package to get his 1967 Chevy Camaro back into the Rockingham winners’ circle. He beat Wilmington’s Chad Duke in the final.

The other Top ET title went to Shannon Justice, who got a free ride when final-round foe Brian Wiggins of Trenton was guilty of a foul start.

Other winners in the rain-shortened event were Andrew Davis of Fayetteville and Rodney Lunsford of Roxboro in Footbrake and Haley Lotts of Waynesboro, Virginia and Dawson Wiggins of Dunn in Junior Dragster.

Davis, who finished second in last year’s track championship, denied Lunsford a double-up victory by turning him back in the Sunday final by a margin of .014 of a second.

This Saturday, The Rock plays host for the 21st time to the SRI Spring Sportsman Wars, the race formerly known as the Spring Civil Wars. In addition to racing in Top ET, Footbrake, Junior Dragster and Open Comp, the race will feature the Classic Gear Jammers and the Carolina Gassers.
