ROCKINGHAM — The 2016 North Carolina East-West All-Star football game will feature both Devon Hunt and Quientel Goodwin of Richmond Senior’s football team.

At the end of February, Hunt and Goodwin were both selected to the East All-Star roster of players who will compete in the game at Jamieson Stadium in Greensboro on Wednesday, July 20.

“This is something that I wanted to do since I started the season,” Hunt said. “Now, I’m speechless and just very excited to be able to play in it.”

Hunt, a 6’1, 215-pound linebacker, was selected First-Team All Conference at the end of this past season. He totaled 154 tackles (96 solo), 20 tackles for loss, recorded eight sacks, caused one fumble and recovered four fumbles.

Although Hunt is looking forward to meeting new people and playing with some of the guys he played against, there’s one thing that he really cannot wait to do.

“Most importantly, I’m looking forward to suiting up one more time,” Hunt added.

Hunt, who also plays baseball for Richmond Senior, is considering his options, as he is undecided on where he will be attending college.

“We’re excited to have some of our guys playing in it,” football coach Mike Castellano said. “We knew they had a good chance based on their character, their grades and obviously their play on the field and dedication to Richmond and the football program.”

Quientel Goodwin, a 5’9, 185-pound running back, is also excited about the opportunity to play in the game.

“I’ve always dreamed of this,” Goodwin said. “I’m excited about playing it in, working on my game and just representing my school.”

After rushing for 1,156 yards and eight touchdowns on 165 carries during his senior campaign, Goodwin signed to further his football career at Catawba College in Salisbury.

The Catawba Indians won a South Atlantic Conference championship this past season. They finished the season 9-3 and made it to the first round of the NCAA Division II playoffs, before falling to Tuskegee University (Alabama).

In his last two seasons, Goodwin combined for 2,323 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns.

“They meant a lot to us. They were the guys that bought in to what we were trying to do. They led by example and held each other and their temmates accountable,” Castellano added.
