Law enforcement ceremony today
This morning, members of the community will gather on the Richmond County Courthouse steps to recognize National Law Enforcement Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day. At 11 a.m. Richmond County Sheriff James E. Clemmons Jr. will begin the ceremony by opening the program. The guest speaker of the event will be Rockingham Police Chief Billy Kelly. The event will last about an hour, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Nursing students earn pins
After two years of study, 29 graduates of the Lillian Duer James School of Nursing at Richmond Community College celebrated completion of their Associates Degree Nursing (ADN) program at a pinning ceremony Thursday night, May 9, at the Cole Auditorium in Hamlet, N.C. The Prophetic Believers Conference will be held May 19-24, 2013, at Greater Gospel Lighthouse, 552 Greenlake Road, Rockingham. Richmond County Animal Advocates is gearing up for its inaugural pet walk, the “Mutt Strutt,” this Sunday, May 19, at Hinson Lake in Rockingham.
