ARRL Field Day is the single most popular on-the-air event held annually in the U.S. and Canada. On the fourth weekend of June of each year, more than 35,000 radio amateurs gather with their clubs, groups or simply with friends to operate from remote locations.
The Richmond County Amateur Radio Club plans to take part in the 2013 ARRL Field Day, on Saturday, June 22. The club will be meeting at Freedom Baptist Church in the picnic area, at 987 U.S. 1 North, Rockingham.
This is the second time the club has participated in field day as a group. Members of the public will be able to see how contact is made with another station and perhaps be allowed to transmit from the radio. The club will use its official FCC license K4RNC.
This is a general interest Amateur Radio club, and is open to any individual with an enthusiasm for radio communications. A valid Amateur Radio License is not required, but it is encouraged. New members are welcome.
“We meet on the second Saturday of the month at the Richmond County Emergency Management building,” said the website, http://richmondcountyarc.org/. “The Richmond County Amateur Radio Club is a small club located in Richmond County, NC. We have a membership that includes licensed and non-licensed individuals. Everyone shares the same passion of radios, though.”
Elected club officers are: President Mark Dawkins, Vice-President Eddie Frye, and Secretary/Treasurer Mark Gibson.
The club’s next meeting will be 9 a.m. July 13, at the Richmond County Emergency Services Office, 319 S. Lawrence St., Rockingham.
All licensed amateurs are also encouraged to use the club repeater.
According to the club’s website, “The repeater is a Mastr II running 80 watts to an antenna that is around 200 feet up on the county Emergency Communications tower. The repeater encodes the output with a 88.5 CTCSS tone. You can program your radio to not activate until it hears this tone if you choose to. This is optional, and will not affect your use of the repeater.”
