The Leak Street Cultural Center on Leak Street in Rockingham will host a Summer Food Program that will include other activities for community members.
From June 18-July 26, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. children kindergarten ages through 9th grade can register for two USDA approved meals, swimming, bowling, field grips, playground and gym time as well as enrichment activities, recreation and fitness.
Registration costs are a donation of $50 per student, with limited scholarships available. Costs cover activities for the entire six weeks, except swimming, which will be $1 for each swim.
Leak Street Alumni Director J.C. Watkins said he is working on bringing a tennis program to the cultural center. According to Watkins, the program is seeking volunteers to teach and help with activities. The program is also seeking a table tennis set, as well as a pool table and other recreational games.
A recent acquisition of the Leak Street property by the Leak Street Alumni has allowed the Leak Street Cultural Center to become a new community center and to offer children a safe and recreational place to spend summer days, said Watkins.
“We own all the facilities on the campus,” said Watkins. “We will use the gym this summer. We have adequate facilities, such as classrooms and rooms with fitness equipment.”
