The Seaboard Festival recently announced the recipients of its annual donations to local causes. At the conclusion of each year, the Seaboard Festival Board meets to review its funding requests and decide how to best help the community.
Seaboard Festival Board President Marissa Grooms said, “We are very excited about the opportunity to give back to our community, and this year we’ve found two special projects to provide special enrichment to our home, the City of Hamlet. We couldn’t be more proud of our city and deeply appreciate the opportunity to help fund local projects.”
The 2013 beneficiaries include:
• Hamlet Depot and Museums - for the establishment of the “Seaboard Trail;” a self-guided historic walking tour of the “Hub of the Seaboard.”
• Discovery Place KIDS-Rockingham - to support its mission to ignite wonder as a preeminent science education center providing extraordinary experiences that engage people in the active exploration of science and nature.
• Hamlet Business Development Authority - to support its effort to highlight tourist attractions and the business district of the City of Hamlet to visitors to the community.
• Humane Society of Richmond County - to contribute to its efforts to care for and find loving homes for abandoned animals.
Presentations were made to the organizations during February and March. Hamlet Depot Museum Manager and Downtown Coordinator for the City of Hamlet Miranda Chavis said, “With this grant, the Seaboard Festival has helped to completely fund the Seaboard Trail, and I appreciate their donation and their commitment to the community.”
