The Richmond County Board of Elections began Monday mailing notices to more than 6,000 voters that have had “No Contact” for two federal election cycles, according to Connie Kelly, director of elections.
North Carolina General Statutes require County Board’s of Elections to conduct a “List Maintenance” every odd numbered year to assist in maintaining current voter rolls.
These verification mailings require a first class voter card addressed to the recipient. If the mail does not come back as undeliverable within 15 days, the voter is considered to still be a resident of the address and is allowed to remain on the voter rolls for the next two (2) federal election cycles, Kelly said.
If you receive a voter card addressed to an individual that no longer lives at the address, or who is deceased, make that notation on the card and place it back in the mailbox to be returned to the county Board of Elections.
“This will allow us to identify those that are no longer living in the county or that have changed their address,” said Kelly.
