“My mother has dementia” is a difficult thing to hear from an adult child who has a parent effected by the illness. I have worked with many families in this situation and it is never easy to hear this difficult news. The incredible rise of Alzheimer's Disease
We are in a wave of increasing cases of Alzheimer's disease. In the United States the CDC has stated that the rates are rising dramatically. A new study published in the journal Neurology says the number of people with Alzheimer’s is expected to triple over the next 40 years to about 13.8 million by 2050, with about half of that group age 85 and older. This will be a tremendous number of families that will be suffering the consequences of the illness. The disease steals more than memory, it steals the personality. The part of the brain that effects personality is ruined by nasty brain plaque. If you are saying My mother has dementia you may not recognize the same person in a short time.
