On the non-partisan ballot in Richmond County on Tuesday, longtime District Court Judge Lisa Blue Thacker earned reelection to the bench for another term, soundly defeating challenger John R. Nance.

District wide, unofficial vote totals show Thacker received 30,230 votes, or 62.16 percent of ballots cast, and Nance earned 18,402 votes, or 37.84 percent.

Unofficial vote tallies from Richmond County only show Thacker garnered 11,610 votes, or 73.99 percent, and Nance collected just 4,082 votes, or about 26.01 percent.

Thacker, of Polkton, has been a District Court Judge for more than 14 years and has been Chief District Court Judge for more than three years. Nance, an attorney from Stanfield, runs the Law Office of John R. Nance, P.A.

Late Tuesday, Thacker released a statement: “Thank you so much to everyone who supported me in my re-election campaign! All the credit goes to you, my faithful friends, and all the glory to God. I am truly blessed, and I thank each and every one of you from the bottom of my heart! My phone is exploding with texts, and my email is filled with messages, which I will return as soon as I can, but know that I appreciate each one of you and you all hold a special place in my heart! I couldn’t have done it without you! God bless and good night!”

Before taking the bench, Thacker was an Assistant District Attorney for almost nine years, prosecuting everything from DWIs to capital murder cases. She received high scores on the N.C. Bar survey for integrity and impartiality, knowledge of the law, and administrative skills. Thacker ranked 21st out of the 160 judges evaluated statewide. She has been married to her husband, Todd East Thacker, an educator with the Anson County Public School System, for almost 13 years. They have a daughter, Caroline Grace, 10 years old.

In her campaign, Thacker pointed out that she was endorsed by every county sheriff in the District, and by the North Carolina Association of Women Attorneys.
