The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation unit, assisted by investigators from the Marlboro County Sheriff’s office, was continuing the investigation of a home invasion-type robbery. The robbery occurred on Highway 381 in Hamlet on Jan. 14. One suspect, Cedric McInnis of Clio, S.C. was arrested in Feb. and brought back to Richmond County. The search continued to identify the second suspect in the robbery. Marlboro County Sheriff’s Office received information of the suspect staying at a motel in Bennettsville. Investigators went to the motel and arrested Howard Tayon Owens, 24, North Circle, Clio, S.C., inside the motel. Owens waived extradition and was brought back to Richmond County to face charges. Owens was charged with first degree kidnapping, second degree kidnapping and robbery with a dangerous weapon. He was placed in the Richmond County Jail under a $100,000 secure bond.
Sheriff Clemmons said, ” I can’t express how thankful I am for the assistance the investigators from Marlboro County Sheriff’s office have given us. They have worked side by side with our investigators to see this case solved. With their help it has brought two suspects into custody. The case had many man power hours and we are still working on it until we are 100 percent sure no one else was involved.”
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation unit was investigating a report of a stolen four-wheeler from a yard on Earl Franklin Drive in Dobbins Heights from June 2010. The four-wheeler has not been recovered but investigators had probable cause to arrest and charge Antwan Delvincio Morrison, 30, Ellen Road, Rockingham, for obtaining property by false pretenses. Morrison was placed in the Richmond County Jail under a $10,000 secure bond.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation unit was investigating a report of someone shooting into two mobile homes and a vehicle on Whitney Lane in Rockingham on March 21. One home was unoccupied as well as the vehicle but the other home had five people inside when the shooting took place. Detectives investigated the scene and developed information on possible suspects due to a related altercation that had taken place a day or so earlier. Arrested and charged were Tavon Kikon Morrison, 25, Park Street, Hamlet; Travis Lamont Jones, 24, Earl Franklin Drive, Hamlet; Jashawn Ramah Baker, 20, Earl Franklin Drive, Hamlet; and Monte Javon Smith, 18, Park Street, Rockingham. Each was charged with discharging a barreled weapon into an occupied dwelling, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and injury to real property. Morrison and Smith were released on a written promise to appear in court. Jones had a bond of $25,000 while Baker’s bond was $35,500.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation vice/narcotics unit conducted a vehicle stop on April 6. During the stop, investigators seized two ounces of cocaine. Sandy Sharron Gathers, 27, Pullman Drive, Summerville, S.C., was arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine and maintaining a vehicle for controlled substance. He was placed in the Richmond County jail under a $50,000secure bond.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation vice/narcotics unit was conducting surveillance on drug activity at a motel on Highway 74 in Rockingham. Richard Wayne Schoonover, 39, Rockingham, was arrested and charged with sell/deliver cocaine. He was released on a written promise to appear in court.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation unit was investigating an assault that took place in the jail. Investigators interviewed witnesses and video surveillance and later charged inmates Jonathan Gage Ard, 19, Third Avenue, Chadburn, and Richard Jeviah Graham, 26, Beaverwood Court, Rockingham, with assault inflicting serious injuries. Bond was set at $5,000.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation vice/narcotics unit was conducting a controlled buy of cocaine. Arrested and charged was Arthur Thomas Nichols, 37, Fayetteville Road, Rockingham. He was charged with possession with intent to sell/deliver cocaine, conspiracy to sell cocaine and maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance. He was placed in the Richmond County Jail under a $10,000 secure bond. During the controlled buy, four grams of cocaine were seized.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation unit was investigating a report of someone shooting into a house on Mary Wall Road in Rockingham. Arrested and charged was Gerald Wayne Tyler, 19, 4th Avenue Pee Dee, Rockingham. The incident stemmed from Tyler getting into an argument with a female earlier in the night. He allegedly came back later and shot into the house while people were sleeping inside. Tyler was placed in the Richmond County Jail under a $10,000 secure bond.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s office Criminal Investigation unit was investigating a breaking and entering and larceny at a residence on Stokes Road in Rockingham. Arrested and charged was L.H. Harrington, 47, Hamer Mill Road, Rockingham. Stokes was charged with breaking and entering and larceny after a breaking and entering. He was placed in the Richmond County jail under a $20,000 secure bond.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation vice/narcotic unit had conducted an investigation on March 31 where a drug bust happened. Corey Antwan Womble, 27, Beeler Avenue, Hamlet, was arrested and charged with trafficking cocaine, possession with intent to sell/deliver cocaine, simple possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. He was placed in the Richmond County jail under a $25,000 secure bond. Womble was out on bond at the time for other drug related charges from January of this year. Womble turned himself in on April 4.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation unit was investigating a report of a missing juvenile. While investigating the runaway, she was located and claimed she left because a suspect was fondling her at her home. Detectives conducted interviews and later arrested and charged Adelaido Maldonado Ramirez, 34, 9th Avenue Aleo, Rockingham, with indecent liberties with a minor. The victim was only 15 years old. Ramirez was placed in the Richmond County jail under a $25,000 secure bond.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation unit assisted by detention officers at the Richmond County Jail conducted a search of an inmate when checked into the jail to serve a weekend sentence. Four packs of cigarettes, a pack of rolling papers, a lighter and 5 marijuana cigarettes were taped onto the side of a leg of Isiah Ratliff, 50, Grenbriar Lane, Rockingham. He was arrested and charged with felony possession of controlled substance on jail premises and possession of drug paraphernalia. Bond was set at $25,000.
The Richmond County Sheriff’s office Criminal investigation was investigating a break-in at a residence on Fifth Street in Hamlet. Detectives followed up on leads and recovered a four-wheeler, assorted video games and are still searching for a 40” television that was stolen. Arrested and charged was Michael Leon Young, 20, Buttercup Drive. He was charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering and injury to real property. Young was placed in the Richmond County jail under a $25,000 secure bond.
