DUNN — The Richmond Senior baseball team had its opening-round game of the Central Carolina Scholastic Summer League playoffs postponed because of rain and lightning Monday night.
The game will resume at 1 p.m. today at Midway High School in Dunn.
The Raiders lead Triton 1-0 with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. Richmond jumped in front after Drew Butler singled and moved to second on an error. Bradley Brown plated Butler with a double.
Butler was named to the CCSSL’s West All-Star team, while Brown was selected to the Futures Game. Nic Bullard was tabbed to the Futures Game for the second straight season, while junior varsity player Devin Hunt will also participate in the contest.
The winner of the Richmond-Triton contest will take on the victor of the West Johnston and South Central contest at 5 p.m.
Scotland, the top seed out of the Southwest Division, was bounced from the playoffs following an 8-5 loss to Midway.
Rockingham teams head to Davidson
DAVIDSON — Both of Rockingham’s Pony Division all-star teams have advanced to the South Region tournament beginning today in Davidson.
The 13-year-old squad battled out of the loser’s bracket to stay alive. After winning its opening round contest, Rockingham fell to DC Force 8-6 in the second round. The team downed North Meck to set up a rematch with DC Force to determine the South Section champion. Rockingham cruised to a 12-5 victory to force a deciding contest with DC Force. Rockingham moved on with a 4-3 victory.
The 14-year-old team had an easier team in its section. Rockingham won all three of its games in Asheboro, routing High Point White in the finals to advance.
Rockingham’s 13-year-old squad will be the first to hit the diamond, battling CBC at 6 p.m. today, followed by the 14-year-old team taking on Davidson at approximately 8 p.m. The winner of the first game will face Henry County at 6 p.m. Wednesday, while the victor of the nightcap will battle Western Branch at 8 p.m. Wednesday. The losers of Tuesday’s game will not return to action until Thursday.
