Mary Alice Martin Dumas, 89, of 2007 Hwy 220 South, Ellerbe, died Nov. 7 at home.

She was born Dec. 6, 1919 in Ellerbe, daughter of the late Nathan and Lena Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Dumas Sr., and one daughter, Mary Frances Kennedy.

Mrs. Dumas was a member of Saron Baptist Church since early childhood where she served as the Sunday School secretary, a member of the choir and the usher board. She also served in the community as the secretary of the Mineral Springs Improvement Council. After the death of her husband, she established the Dumas Family Reunion, which has continued for the past several years.

She is survived by six sons, Herbert L. Jackson of High Point; Frank Dumas of Rockingham, Alfred Dumas of Rockingham, Roscoe Dumas of Marietta, Ga., Lorenzo Dumas of Candor, Reginald Dumas of Pageland, S.C.; four daughters, Connie, Barbara and Brenda Dumas of High Point and Lena Ferguson of Ellerbe; one sister, Mrs. Walsie Jackson of High Point, 32 grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, four nieces and three nephews.
